Birds Pictures - How Intelligent are They?

Birds of the corvid family - crows, ravens, rooks, magpies and jackdaws - are considered the smartest of all the bird species. They have been observed to put the nuts on the road for the passing cars to crack them. After the cars were gone, the birds picked up the nuts and fed on them.

These birds are not the only ones who use various tricks to feed. Eagles are known to throw the tortoises down on the rocks. This proves their great intelligence and speaks in favor of their ability to adapt to various situations.

Earlier, most people believed that the birds could perform only the simplest of thought processes. Nowadays, this opinion seems to have shifted a little. It is believed now that most bird species can also learn by doing, just like children who learn by example.

No one will be surprised to hear a bird talk if this bird is a parrot. Some parrots are known not only to repeat but also to compose meaningful sentences. The Clarke's nutcracker is lesser known than parrots, yet this bird has probably the keenest memory!

The species collects up to 30,000 pine seeds over three weeks in November to carefully bury them for safe keeping across a covered area of 200 square miles. Over the next eight months, it succeeds in retrieving over 90 percent of them, even when they are covered in feet of snow.

Amazing intelligence and beauty in birds is what attracts many people to them. This fact explains why so many people are keen on keeping bird species as pets. Some birds are very expensive nowadays, yet others are common and make good pets for thousands of people.
