Bird Feeders

Bird Feeding is one of the most fascinating occupations for bird lovers, so there are large numbers of Bird Feeders designed for various bird species available on the pet market. With the number of feeder types so large, you may be faced with difficulties choosing one. Anyway, there are a few most certain points for you to consider, which may help you choose an appropriate Bird Feeder type.

As Bird Feeders are intended for outdoor installation, they must be made of reliable and weather-proof materials, which should make them impervious to moisture. It is very important to purchase a feeder, which can be placed safely, without the risk of toppling over or being blown off by a gust of wind. Bird Feeders must be easy to clean, and should feature devices to repel other animals.

The type of the Bird Feeder depends on bird species. There are three most popular feeder types: hopper feeders, tube feeders and platform feeders. Hopper feeders can be suspended on a hook or on a tree branch or perched on a pole. Hopper feeders usually feature a transparent plastic receptacle for seeds and grains, with roof-shaped lids, which can be opened easily. It is recommended to use hopper feeders that can be disassembled and cleaned easily.

Tube Bird Feeders are made in the shape of a cylinder, and they feature small perches. Therefore, they are most suitable for small birds, such chickadees, titmice, woodpeckers, nuthatches and finches. These feeders are great for those willing to feed small birds, as large birds, such as doves, cardinals or grackles are not usually attracted to such feeders. Tube feeders usually feature holes for grains to sift through, so that birds have access to food.

Platform feeders can be used to attract a large variety of birds, both small and large. These Bird Feeders usually attract doves, sparrows, and other ground feeding birds. Platform feeders can be safely installed on the ground or on poles. A lot of food strewn on the platform can attract lots of birds; therefore, this feeder type seems to be most popular among bird watchers. However, platform Bird Feeders are not a great option for small bird lovers, as larger ground birds are quite aggressive in asserting their right for food and usually ward off smaller birds.
