Humming Birds

Hummingbirds are really “Humming Birds”, and they get their name from characteristic humming noise that their rapidly flapping wings produce. They are the smallest birds in the whole world, and they can only be found in Americas. There are about 340 hummingbird species and they can be found throughout the North American and the South American continents. The Black-Chinned, the Ruby-Thoated and the Rufous Hummingbirds are the most common species.

These little Humming Birds are extremely attractive due to their miniature size, iridescent and colorful feathering and unique flying abilities. This is the only bird that can fly backwards or sideways. Hummingbirds can stay motionless (except for their fast-flapping wings) in midair, like helicopters. They never produce loud or disturbing sounds, and they do not show any aggression against humans or domestic animals.

Humming Birds only feed on flower nectar and small insects. Their intensive metabolism requires constant intake of nutrients contained in their daily ratio, as the work of their wings requires a tremendous amount of energy. Bright colors attract these birds, so there are bird feeders available for sale designed in such a way as to attract this particular bird species.

Humming Birds are relatively easy to attract. If you are an ardent hummingbird lover and would like to create your own hummingbird picture gallery or make videos, you can fix a hummingbird feeder near your home or create a hummingbird garden by building flower beds and thus create an exquisite backdrop for your pictures.

No matter how beautiful a stage you arrange for your future photo sessions, birds’ safety must be your primary concern. Please, do not use pesticides in your garden, because this may lead to poisoning and death of Humming Birds. It is quite important to pick up suitable flowers that are most likely to capture a hummer’s attention. Because these birds do not have a good sense of smell, using smelly flowers is not necessary.

If you are planning to use hummingbird feeders, you may have to place several ones at a decent distance from each other, because hummers can be quite aggressive in asserting their rights for food. There is nothing we can do about this behavior, since this is the only way for all animals to survive in the wild. Please, clean and rinse your feeders every day, and note that sugar water must be replaced daily too. If you want to have Humming Birds your constant visitors, you should take effort to provide healthy and secure conditions for them to feed safely and regularly.
